WinXP: How to Deactivate the “Windows Genuine Advantage Tool”

To remove Microsoft’s new “Windows Genuine Advantage-Tool”, which in the current version will check the system’s license every day against a Microsoft database, simply remove the registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\ CurrentVersion\WinLogon\Notify\WGALogon

    Hi,

I don’t really get what you are saying? You should delete/rename (later is more safe) the whole key, not a single value within the key.

    Regards,
    Martin

    Hi Martin

I have had email’s eent to me with pps,xls and doc extensions and today, when I tried to view each one, a window popped up with microsoft installer and then a window to say I was not authorized to use the software and to re install from the legal cd of windows.

I don’t know if windows on here is legal or not. However, I can no longer use word, excel or powerpoint.
I tried to look at the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\ CurrentVersion\WinLogon\Notify\WGALogon but I don’t have the WGALogon that I can see.

Is there any way around this or do I have to buy a windows program and lose all my programs.

    Appreciate any help.

    Mark

I’m sorry, but I won’t give out tips how to remove the notification from unlegitimate copies. I’m not here to help software piracy (I’m a software developer myself, I do want to get money for my software too). I will remove any comments giving out tips how to use a non-genuine version of Windows.

I don’t know how to deactivate it once it noticed your copy is not genuine. And to be honest, I don’t care. I’m sure there are other sites out there which will exactly tell you what to do.
